Too Hot
I'm too hot—I can't function! Bring back winter or at least 20 degrees. Of course - the perfect combination of workshops yesterday in the super duper heat was candle making (full-on burners) and silver smithing (more burners). Emma's ‘air conditioning system’ (ie cute fans) did its best, but it was no match for 35 degrees!
I will be investigating ice sculptures and lying in a dark, air-conditioned room as possible sessions for next summer!
I really should just start by telling you it's time to start booking Christmas, as I know some of you do that sort of thing in the sweltering heat - but not even I can bear to think about it yet, so I will do that next week!
Somewhere that could have benefited from the heat wave was definitely the opening ceremony for the Paris Olympics. A little sunshine might have turned the crazy avant-garde French 'Je ne sais quoi' style into something less uncomfortable to watch!! But I have enjoyed a little triathlon, gymnastics and swimming from the comfort of my sofa with Kanga, the rabid piranha puppy, using her needle teeth to keep me awake.
Paws
Last week's blog post had Cotswold Dog Photographer Lucie contact us to ask if Kanga would like to come for a photo shoot to promote a collaboration between us and The Hope Rescue centre that Kanga came from. Not one to miss out on any attention, Kanga has jumped at the chance, so watch this space next week for our photoshoot images.
In case any of you like to hear about my fun summer holiday family activities- kitchen camping is another great one. The way it works is you have your 15 year old son find a giant spider on his pillow (they also hate the heat so come out of the walls to cool down) who decides he will sleep on the sofa instead and keep Kanga company. He brings his headphones and so can’t hear the cries and yelps from Kanga. I join the camp at 2ish when Kanga is retching and looking like she has some alien living inside her (had her injections yesterday so could be side affects) and give up after 3 attempts to go back to bed and settle in for the night next to the crate at 3.30ish. Mr Larkswold apparently joined the fun at 6.15am but I think I was enjoying it so much I didn’t notice!!!
Next Week
We are busy little bees on and off-site. Join us for Flamingo wrapping at Birdland (less weird than it sounds) or snaffle the last two places on our Folksy platter session or silversmithing
Thursday 8th August 2 spots left to paint a folksy platter
Saturday 10th August 2 spots left to silversmith
Need to book any of the sessions we have talked about? then click on the links below.
The week after we have Silver Metal Clay 10am on Saturday 17th August. Its a 3hr session to explore making earrings and/or a pendant.
Shelby the dog and Annika had loads of fun last month at the session
"Great fun and lovely jewellery extra special as you make it!!"
LITTLE LARKS
Little Larks are enjoying summer crafts both in the studio and at Birdland. Tuesday saw some beautiful decoupaged glasses & Zentangled initial designs in the studio and Wednesday some impressive block printed party bags at Birdland.
Emma is in the studio with Little Larks crafty club. Suitable for age 10+:
Tuesday 13th August
1) Paper folded mini books
2) Stick/paper weaving Tuesday 27th August
1) Block Printed cards
2) Friendship bracelets, beads & knotting
Yep - I think it’s time I clocked off and drank something refreshingly delicous. The Birches, Mr Larkswold and myself are off on an adventure to Malvern for the weekend in some kind of cool 3-wheeled Morgan - will report back next week!
So that means 15 year old son is head of Kanga care! I think it will be character-building for him and the dog.
Enjoy your weekend, whatever loveliness you are up to.
Melinda
